The City of Walthourville salutes and honor the Man from Plains, GA. We owe him a wealth of gratitude for his decision to charter the city in 1974 with an All-Female Mayor and Council. Governor Carter and those resilient women made History. Carter Road here in Walthourville bears his name for the symbolic gesture of creating our great city.

President Jimmy Carter was Georgia’s 76th Governor and our Nation’s 39th President. A man of integrity, faith, morals and he always worked for the betterment of his fellow man.

He was the man from Plains, Georgia with humble beginnings who never forget his roots, and who believed and lived that every human being was worthy.  He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts to promote human rights and resolve conflicts around the world. Upon leaving the White House he devoted his life’s mission to Philanthropy and Humanitarian Efforts.

He and his wife Rosalyn founded the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia, a nongovernmental organization, The Carter Center has helped to improve life for people in more than 80 countries by resolving conflicts; advancing democracy and human rights; preventing diseases; and improving mental health care. He was a strong advocate for Habitat for Humanity, he could be seen building homes well into his nineties. 

We are forever indebted to the ordinary man who did extraordinary things with his life, he has made an indelible mark on this world that can never be erased.
